6th Annual BIG Event

JUNE 2018 - Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities is dedicated to giving back to our local communities and for 6 years we've dedicated one day each year to doing just that; our annual BIG Event. Each year, our offices choose a charity, foundation, or service project to donate their time to. The Mendota Heights office partnered with Feed My Starving Children which exemplifies our pillars of focus, fun, faith, family and future. Our 65 volunteers packaged over 51,000 meals which will go towards feeding 140 children every day for a year in underprivileged countries all over the world. We are proud to have members of Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities that are dedicated to various causes and continue to serve their communities throughout the year.

Pinky Swear Foundation

Northwestern Mutual – Twins Cities and the Pinky Swear Foundation have created a great relationship over the last couple of years due to their shared passion for helping people in their community. Mitch Chepokas, a brave, young boy’s story touch our hearts and has made a lasting impression on our organization.

In honor of Mitch, the foundation has created a wonderful community and events to help support families around the country who are battling cancer. We are very fortunate to have participated in the Pinky Swear Kids Triathlon in August 2015, 2016 & 2017. The experience we had meeting the participants and awarding them with their finishing medals as they crossed the finish line has left a lasting impression our group. We’ve also participated in the Pinky Swear Foundation Golf Tournament and National Pinky Swear Day at Mall of America handing out orange beanie hats over the holidays. We are honored to show continued support of this great Foundation, and look forward to all future events!

In 2012, Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities partnered with Chad Greenway and his Lead the Way foundation to raise money for  metro-area critically- and chronically-ill children with daily support and life changing experiences (  In regard to the partnership, Chad said, "We were looking for a great partner to piggyback with a golf tournament," Greenway said. "[Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities] was very instrumental in allowing us to be a part of their group for this event."  Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities committed $100,000 to Lead the Way in addition to it's contribution to CCRF.

In addition to the Lead The Way Foundation, Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities also supports Chad's Locker, which provides patients and their families access to notebook computers, movies and video game systems to occupy their time during hospital stays. Beyond The Yellow Ribbon

In 2014, Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities was named a Yellow Ribbon Company because of our alignment in beliefs and values. A Yellow Ribbon Company is a broad, organizational structured company with national, regional and statewide influence. In addition, a Yellow Ribbon Company needs to contain essential areas including a HR Recruiting, HR Policy, Procedure Department, Training and Development, Community and Employee Outreach, and Support Departments. A Yellow Ribbon Company unites all key areas within a company structure to create a comprehensive network that connects and coordinates these areas throughout the company for the purpose of proactively supporting Servicemembers and miliary families.

The BIG Event

On August 1st 2015, the members of Northwestern Mutual - Twin Cities traded in their suits & dress pants for t-shirts and tennis shoes. 2013 kicked off the first year for “The BIG Event.” The event was a way to say thank you to the communities by giving back through service.
